UB Accountancy Students Bag Awards at the 23rd Regional Mid-Year Convention, Securing Spots in Nationals

Another batch of UBians rose to the challenge, upholding the university’s legacy of excellence!

With unwavering dedication and excellence, the University of Baguio (UB) delegates from the School of Business Administration and Accountancy (SBAA) showcased their skills at the 23rd Regional Mid-Year Convention (RMYC) of the National Federation of Junior Philippine Institute of Accountants – Region 1 and Cordillera Administrative Region (NFJPIA-R1CAR).

Held from January 7 to 9, 2025, at Hotel Supreme Convention Plaza in Baguio City, the convention, themed “Glacial Oasis: Drift in the Snow’s Embrace, Discover Winter’s Mystique,” gathered over 500 participants from various institutions across the region. Competing in a highly competitive field, the UB delegates demonstrated exceptional skill, determination, and teamwork, earning top rankings in both academic and non-academic events.

Demonstrating skill and perseverance, the UB delegates earned remarkable placements in the competitive academic events at the 23rd RMYC. The UB Bookkeeping team, composed of Jaminah Bencio, Princess Lhorengil Buada, Bianca Ysabelle Dasilao, Rian Josh Juan, and James Derick Ulila, secured 4th place in the Bookkeeping Challenge. Keziah Grace Dupahnay demonstrated her expertise in Advanced Financial Accounting and Reporting, earning 4th place in CATCUP 2.

Exhibiting strong analytical and problem-solving skills, Glory Ann Llamas, Patricia Lyn Midang, Esther Cuh-ing, Mitzi Joy Gagto, and Micah Ruth Pascua, claimed 5th place in the Tax Case Study Competition. Glory Ann Llamas also showcased her accounting skills, finishing 7th in the Cyber Accounting Genius event. In the JPIA Cup, which covered all LECPA subjects, Jim Zara Valenzuela secured 5th place, while Mitzi Joy Gagto and Shaira Mae Lebadia placed 6th. Rounding out UB’s achievements, Brett Michaels Busoy earned 10th place in CATCUP 4, focusing on the Regulatory Framework for Business Transactions.

UB delegates also achieved remarkable success in several non-academic competitions at the 23rd RMYC. Esther Cuh-ing, Patricia Lyn Midang, and Micah Ruth Pascua were crowned champions in the Mind Blitz competition, showcasing their sharp intellect and teamwork. In sports, Camille Ann Balajadia led the way, securing 1st place in Badminton and 3rd place in Quizidents, while also placing 6th in the Essay Writing competition.

The chess competition saw strong performances, with Princess Lhorengil Buada earning 3rd place in the Women’s category and Brett Michaels Busoy securing 5th place in the Men’s category. Rian Josh Juan demonstrated quick thinking and eloquence to earn 4th place in Extemporaneous Speaking, while Liam Aleccis Cabanit proudly represented UB with a 9th place finish in Poster Making.

Aligned with Sustainable Development Goal 4: Quality Education, the recent successes of the University of Baguio delegates at the 23rd RMYC highlight the dedication and hard work of UB-SBAA students in applying their knowledge and skills. With the unwavering support of the University of Baguio and the Junior Philippine Institute of Accountants-UB Chapter, UB continues to cultivate future professionals who are well-prepared for the challenges of their careers. These accomplishments not only demonstrate the impact of quality education but also showcase the institution’s commitment to fostering excellence in its students.

Adding to this achievement, two of UB’s winners, Jim Zara Valenzuela and Keziah Grace Dupahnay, will proudly represent the University of Baguio at the 27th National Mid-Year Convention on February 11-14, 2025, at the Acacia Hotel, Bacolod City. Their advancement marks another milestone for UB’s accountancy program.
