UB SBAA exchange student wins 2nd Place in Soroptimist Speech Contest

Bringing honor to the Philippines and her university, Arialyn Quero Dacanay, an exchange student from the University of Baguio’s School of Business Administration and Accountancy (SBAA), proudly secured 2nd place in the prestigious Soroptimist Speech Contest on November 16, 2024, at Meikyoji Temple. Dacanay is currently an exchange student at Nagasaki Wesleyan University in Japan.

The competition, organized by the International Soroptimist Sorohoya Isahaya, welcomed 12 participants from various cultural backgrounds to deliver speeches on the theme “My Country’s Pride.” Dacanay stood out with her passionate and eloquent presentation, celebrating the Philippines’ rich culture and achievements.

First place was awarded to Manisia Kumaru from Nepal, while another Nepalese participant, Adhikari Poudel Sangita, claimed 3rd place. Despite the competitive field, Dacanay’s heartfelt delivery resonated strongly with the judges and audience alike.

The event celebrated cultural diversity and public speaking excellence, with participants donning traditional Japanese kimonos to add a touch of authenticity. The program also included a communal bento lunch, fostering friendships among contestants and an appreciation for Japanese culture.

Dacanay’s achievement reflects UB’s dedication to producing globally competitive students who excel on international stages. As an exchange student at the University, she exemplifies UB’s mission to empower its learners to share their stories and shine in diverse arenas.
