Mr. JEC and Ms. JAME crowned as Mr. and Ms. SBAA 2023

The School of Business Administration and Accountancy recently conducted its Mr. and Ms. SBAA Pageant. It was held last February 9, 2023 at the Centennial Hall of University of Baguio. It was one of the anticipated events as it was the first pageant that was held after the COVID-19 Pandemic.

The contestants for the aforementioned pageant were from the different organizations within the School of Business Administration and Accountancy. The Junior Executive Circle (JEC) was represented by Mr. Jabez Lumasoc and Ms. Justine Del-amen; the Junior Association of Marketing Executives (JAME) by Mr. Enrico Medina and Ms. Liezel Binaliw; the Junior Financial Executives by Mr. Mark Esteves and Ms. Ruby Bugnay; and the Organization of Freshmen Executives by Mr. Mo Tambauan and Ms. Krizza Reyes (OFE).

The candidates confidently shared their talents through videos which were presented during the program. There was also a sportswear and evening wear competition where the candidates remarkably walked through the stage showing their sport outfits, gowns and suits. Of course, the most awaited and challenging part for the candidates was the Question and Answer portion which was meant to test their wit. According to one of the judges, “Something I won’t really forget about the Mr. And Ms. SbAA 2023 was the Q&A portion, as I think the topics (Recent political phenomena/events) were really a surprise to many, especially the contestants. But despite that, the contestants were able to formulate answers.” As it was the most exciting part of the event, the candidates were given questions about the latest happenings or issues in the country.

Ever been curious as to why activities like pageants are being held in the university? One of the judges stated that the significance of such an event is to show that despite the ever-competitive environment of college, one can still take breathers in- between. “It is a time that one may showcase themselves in front of an audience while representing a whole department, their values, work ethic, and aptitude to tasks. Further, this allows the school to garner publicity to engage potential scholars and show that such an institute can also be fun and provide opportunities to its students.”, he added. A pageantry like this is only one of those activities being held and organized by the university. It is not just a mere competition but also an event or activity that boosts the confidence of the students. It also inspires the audience and other students to have more confidence and show their skills, talents and professionalism.

As everyone revealed their skills, talents, and good looks, Ms. Liezel (Ms. JAME) and Mr. Jabez (Mr. JEC) were crowned as the Mr. and Ms. SBAA 2023. The 1st runner-up title was awarded to Mr. JFINEX and Ms. OFE; Mr. OFE and JFINEX for the 2nd runner-up title; and the 3rd runner-up title was bagged by Mr. JAME and Ms. JEC. The best in sports wear and best in evening wear awards were given to Mr. JFINEX and the most photogenic award went to Ms. JFINEX. Ms. Liezel (Ms. JAME) not only earned the Ms. SBAA title but also the best in talent, best in sportswear, and best in evening wear awards. According to Ms. Liezel (Ms. SBAA 2023), it was actually her first pageant and she had difficulties preparing for the event since she had limited knowledge about pageants. However, she said that she was able to perform well during the event thanks to the people around her, especially the JAME officers. “Also, because of Mr. and Ms. SBAA, I became more aware of social issues we’re facing right now which I think is important for us to be aware of so that we know the solutions we can do as a student or as a youth to address those issues or challenges,” she added. The event also boosted her confidence, especially that they are going to represent the school for the Mr. and Ms. UB 2023.

Mr. Jabez Lumasoc and Ms. Liezel Binaliw are currently getting geared to take part in the forthcoming Mr. and Ms. University of Baguio 2023 pageant as the School of Business Administration and Accountancy representatives.
